Do I need planning permission for an extension?

In some cases, an extension to your house is considered to be permitted development, which means that it does not require planning permission.  Larger home extensions, or those in designated areas will often need specific planning permission or be subject to a neighbour consultation schemes.

Planning permission being given will be subject to meeting specific criteria for the building work including how and where windows are placed, and the location of the extension relative to the boundaries of your property.

During the process of planning your extension, your architect will be able to work with you to determine whether you need any specific permission – for example if you are overlooked.
